Strange Days
Blimey when life comes at you it comes at you hard.
There’s just over a month to go before the Newport marathon and I’m pretty much exhausted all of the time. thus might be the first time I’ve thought ‘Hmmmm, maybe I don’t have to continue doing this.’ It’s been a harsh Winter to train in and of course I’ve been training harder to try and get a sub three hour PB. It’s touch and go whether it’ll happen. Well at this point with the Coronavirus panic I wouldn’t be surprised if the marathon was cancelled. If it was I would feel a mixture of disappointment and relief.
So I went out for my long run today - Sunday - which was two and a quarter hours running round Roath Park Lake to chew up the miles. I nearly got taken out by a dog on an extended lead. Miraculously I survived and ran out to Sophia Gardens and Cooper Field where there was a organised 10k which I kept weaving in and out of. The run seemed to go pretty well but the pace was a bit elusive, which is odd as my Garmin would randomly beep at me that I was going fast or slow and there didn’t seem to be any difference to me.
My training coach has got me upping the pace at the end of a long run, which in a marathon is where traditionally I start to lose it, and I have been getting quicker at the back end. Today I had to run ten minutes at the end quick pace, I don’t think I quite got the pace but it was certainly the quickest I ran for the entire 16.39 miles so that a reason for optimism
