These Words of Mine
I’m currently sat listening to the ‘Katherine Priddy live at Union Chapel’ at the conclusion of a joyous if slightly muted Record Store Day.
Muted cause I’m running the Newport marathon tomorrow so had to be dry and joyous cause of mates and lots of LOLs.
I had to forgo RSD last year cause I was running the London marathon, so I was determined to make this year. Steve Dixon and I set of last night, met up with our mate Tesco Mike and spent the night at Steve’s chalet to be up fresh and early to queue the next day outside Tangled Parrot in Carmathern, which is now our RSD record store of choice, Matt the owner is super friendly and they have most - if not all of what - of what we want. There was an extra frisson this year as we were joined by my bestest friend Matthew and his son Nathaniel. They actually got there before Steve and me, we joined them (which got us some evils from the four of five people behind them in the queue, but fuck those guys) and went for a coffee run.
So we queued up and talked about previous Record Store Days we have known and loved. I showed Nate my list of wants, cause as soon as I enter a record store my mind goes blank: “Uh, do you have, uh…’Queen’s Greatest Hits’?” etc. Matth’ and Nate had to get a 11:30 train back to Cardiff. I could see that Nate was twitchy about getting to the front queue, but it was all fine. When I was up I pretty much got everything I wanted, except a Bill Evans release, and I’d decided against the spicy Charlie Brown Easter album (which I’m sorta regretting now). I did try and buy the ABBA t-shirt hanging up in the shop with the ABBA logo in a Death Metal logo, but Matt TangledParrot had said it wasn’t for sale and that the back was really faded.
In the end it’s not really about the records, it’s about meeting up with mates and having a laugh, and the laughs came in abundance. A great day wit great people.
