Jesus built my hot rod
It’s been a busy old time of late.
For the get go there was my beloved Pixies (c) playing a short, sharp in Cardiff for the 6music festival. They played the Great Hall in the Student Union which is the smallest venue I’ve seen them since the first time at Gloucester Leisure Centre back in 1990, still the best gig I’ve ever been to Floyd fans. They played for an hour and were off by 7! Perfect! All the hits and the new song. Tight AF.
Then we were into Easter and the welcome return of Wales Goes Pop. I probably went into it a bit too hard at the warm up gig in the Moon on the Thursday but had a great time. Finally got to see the superb Nervous Twitch and the a ton of new bands including Murder Club, Chromo, Chemtrails and first time seeing Flatmates for me. I got to bounce up and down to Panic Shack again, great great festival, but boy did I pay for it.
Felt rotten the next week, but I rallied in time for ‘Wet Leg’ at the Trinity with my gig kemosabe Steve Dixon. They were great, far more rocky than I was expecting with a hint of old school Elastica.
That weekend our merry band of pranksters - Steve, Mike and later Steve Ford - were off to Carmarthan to meet the Parrot, i.e it was Record Store Day 2022 at Tangled Parrot! We headed down the day before and stayed over so that we could get up early for the queue. That night as we compared notes Steve put the ‘Hillbillies from Hell’ compilation, which was rather excellent so that was a late addition to my list,
We didn’t get to the Parrot especially early the next day, 8ish? The queue was that big, there was probably around 16 people ahead of us, Steve Ford joined us and we all yapped about what we were getting, upcoming gigs and terrible support bands we’ve seen. I had an extensive list and pretty much managed to get everything I wanted, and in fact got a few more besides including the aforementioned ‘Hillbillies’ compilation and the Panic Shack EP. Steve Dixon forgot to get the comp but picked it up later then it was just a matter of breakfast. A great day out and I’m still getting through what i bought over Record Store Day and have already started saving up for next year’s!
