Moonage Daydream

I never thought it would happen (between me and the girl from Clapham) but 2020 saw a Record Store Day! In fact the first of three happened this Saturday just gone. I hadn’t been blown away by the list but there was enough on there for me to make an effort. We also put into action a long discussed plan of going on mass to ‘Tangled Parrot’ records in Carmarthan.

However it was a little fractured this year. Steve Ford couldn’t make it, Steve Dixon was already there and Mike was heroically hungover. We set off from Cardiff at 8am with Mike’s mate Time along for the ride, after a pleasant drive discussing our RSD wants and what we’d been listening to we arrived around 9:30ish. The queue wasn’t bad, around a dozen people in front of us for a 10am kick off. Steve Dixon was a few people up from up in the queue and came and had a yap. Due to the virus there was a strict one in one out rule, which was fine but meant that the queue went down very slowly. Which was fine, it was a dry day and I enjoyed talking to Mike. Soon enough I was in. Matt - the owner - was behind the counter with an assistant. You’d tell him your choices and they’d go off and get them. My big want was the Hammer Dracula/Frankenstein soundtrack on red and green vinyl respectively, and very beautiful it is too. They had the Radiophonic Workshop albums but they were only on CD, so I stuck my nose up at it, which I was soon kicking myself for. I also bought a Bowie live album and the Spacemen 3 release. While I was at it I bought two ‘Tangled Parrot t-shirts. I spent more than I was anticipating but that goes for pretty much every Record Store Day. Mike, Steve and I pretty much got everything we wanted. We went for a late breakfast and then Mike, Tim and I headed home.

It was great to be out, great to see friends and have a that RSD fission again.
