Bowler Hat Soup
School night gig's are a sweet taboo, expecially ones in Bristol. Last night saw myself and my friend Steve Dixon driving around the city while we tried to remember where we'd left the Louisanna.
It was perfect timing. Almost as soon as we got in Kiran Leonard took the stage, so Steve and I crammed ourselves into the upstairs. I love Kiran's band, they are tight and able to let Kiran fly out in all directions.
However this evening it did seem that the band were doing the sound check for the gig during the gig, so yeah there was a lot of screwing around, but for me it added to the charm of the gig. I did miss possibly the only chance I'll ever get of having my encore heckle of 'Snooker Loopy' played when Kiran started talking about seeing Steve Davies - yes that Steve Davies - DJ at Greenman a few days earlier.
As my mate Steve Dixion pointed out the band may have still been a little jaded from Greenman but i enjoyed the ragged energy. For my man Kiran hasn't quite captured on record the dynamisim that his band has live, but that'll come with time.
What was interesting is that someone had their camera up taking snaps, which illicited a polite but firm "phone down please." from behind me, which was complied with, being a grumpy gigtwat I'm glad that this happened.
So on the previous Kiran Leonard gigs I'd been to I've really enjoyed the pre-encore wig out of 'Geraldo's Farm'. I had planned to look into borrowing some recording equipment to record it and be a filthy bootlegger (even though it's for my own use). I ended up recording it on my phone. The recording ain''t never gonna find itself on heavy weight vinyl but it's a nice keepsake of the gig, and everything I listen to it my barking "GERLADO'S FARM!" in the first chorus always makes me laugh. So enjoy (?)!
