With just under two weeks to go until the Cardiff half marathon I've hit that familiar drain of energy which I get pre-race. It also coincides with the changing of the seasons when everyone seems to hit low ebb. As ever I'm going for a Personal Best, but this time it might be a goer. After years of fucking something up Cardiff seems to have got its shit together. The race was a dream last year, and although the organisers couldn't resist the urge to tinker with the course (if it ain't broke why fix it?) they seem to have learned their lessons.
My training has gone well. In fact there hasn't been much of this year that I haven't been training, I think there was a week post Boston and it was driving me up the wall not running. What's surprised me is how quickly I've got my pace back. Not long after the Tenby half I was running at a decent wack. I entered last Saturday's Parkrun with the intention of hitting my Parkrun PB, but I started too slow and tried out their new 'timed corals' which didn't really work for me. I did have enough in the tank for a sprint finish. I've entered the ballot for the London marathon next year, I'll find out if I've got in next month. If I haven't got in I will almost certainly enter the Edinburgh marathon, but after the Cardiff half my goal is to beat my Parkrun best for the end of 2014!
